About this course
This Part 1 session introduces Tuscany’s wine heritage through its landscapes, appellations, grape varieties, soils and Mediterranean climates. The teaching uses a curated tasting to compare wines from Chianti, Chianti Classico, Montalcino and Vino Nobile di Montepulciano, with attention to Sangiovese’s different expressions and the regional factors shaping each style. The class forms part of the Wine Scholar Guild’s Italian Wine Scholar Unit 2 curriculum and can also serve as an introduction to the wider programme. It is the first of two Toscana sessions, with the second covering different appellations, histories and wines.
