Italian Wine Scholar - Unit 2 - Umbria, Lazio & Molise

About this course

This course examines three central Italian wine regions through their landscapes, native grapes, traditions and developing identities. The content covers Umbrian whites and reds, including Orvieto and Montefalco, Lazio’s volcanic-influenced wines such as Frascati and Cesanese, and Molise’s emerging regional styles. A guided tasting uses selected wines to illustrate the distinctions between the regions and their principal expressions. The session forms part of the Wine Scholar Guild’s Italian Wine Scholar curriculum and can also serve as an introduction to the wider qualification.

• Compare representative white and red wine styles from the three regions
• Relate regional landscapes and traditions to the character of selected wines
• Assess wines from the three regions through a guided tasting

The course is labelled Improver and is intended for wine enthusiasts or learners considering further study through the Italian Wine Scholar qualification. It includes guided tasting and regional comparison. Learners currently enrolled on Italian Wine Scholar Unit 2 are not suited to this session, while those who have completed the programme may find limited new material.
