Japanese Beginners-Stage 1

About this course

The course develops Japanese for everyday situations, including asking about locations, giving directions and discussing destinations, dates, time, transport and facilities. Participants practise present, past, present-negative and past-negative verb forms, while extending their reading of katakana and use of essential vocabulary. Teaching combines role-play, listening activities, structured practice and in-class observation. Japanese culture, etiquette and customs are also explored alongside speaking, writing and grammar work.

Is this course right for you?

This course is intended for Beginner (A1) learners who already have some Japanese foundations. The stated starting point includes greetings and self-introductions, knowledge of hiragana, katakana and some kanji, and the ability to form simple present-tense noun sentences. Regular participation in role-play, listening tasks and structured practice is expected.
