About this course

The course introduces everyday Japanese for greetings, introductions, personal information, shopping and describing locations. Learners work with present-tense affirmative and negative sentences, questions, particles such as wa, mo, ka and no, and the Ko, So, A, Do demonstrative system. Lessons combine spoken communication with group activities and role-plays, alongside systematic practice in grammar, vocabulary, pronunciation and listening comprehension. Content includes numbers, professions, leisure activities, nationalities, family names, hiragana and vocabulary for department stores and office buildings. The course covers chapters 1 to 3 of Minna no Nihongo Beginners Book 1, although teachers may use other resources.

Is this course right for you?

This course is intended for complete beginners who have never studied Japanese. The Beginner (A1) label indicates an introductory level. Learners should expect to communicate in groups, take part in role-plays and hear the teacher using Japanese throughout lessons.
