About this course

The course introduces Japanese through everyday communication, including greetings, introductions, personal details, shopping and locations. Learners work with present-tense statements and questions, key particles, demonstrative words and vocabulary covering leisure, professions, numbers, nationalities, family names, hiragana and items found in department stores and offices. Teaching focuses on spoken communication through group work and role-plays, alongside systematic grammar, vocabulary and pronunciation practice. The teacher uses Japanese throughout the lessons, giving learners opportunities to develop comprehension and listening skills.

The course is intended for complete beginners who have never studied Japanese. Its format suits learners prepared to take part in group work and role-plays, with spoken communication at the centre of the classes. As a Beginner (A1) course, it covers introductory language and foundational structures.
