About this course

The course introduces everyday Japanese through situations such as greetings, introductions, exchanging personal details, shopping and discussing locations. Learners develop foundational language through present-tense statements, questions, key particles, demonstrative words and Hiragana, alongside vocabulary for numbers, professions, nationalities, family names and common places and objects. Teaching focuses on spoken communication, with group activities and role-plays supported by systematic work on grammar, vocabulary and pronunciation. The teacher uses Japanese throughout the lessons to develop comprehension and listening.

What you'll learn

• Exchange greetings and introduce themselves or another person
• Ask for and provide personal information
• Form affirmative and negative present-tense sentences and questions
• Use the particles wa, mo, ka and no in basic sentences
• Recognise and use Hiragana and introductory vocabulary for everyday topics

Is this course right for you?

This course is intended for learners who have never studied Japanese, corresponding to the Beginner (A1) level. Participation involves spoken communication, group work and role-plays, alongside structured language study and listening to Japanese throughout the class.
