Japanese through Origami

About this course

The workshop introduces origami’s history, traditions and connections with Japanese culture, festivals and seasons. Participants then fold a series of pieces, progressing from simpler forms to more advanced designs such as animals, birds, toys and boxes. Teaching combines tutor demonstrations in Japanese and English with PowerPoint slides and active workshop tasks. Learners will complete between three and five origami pieces connected with Japanese culture and seasonal themes.

Is this course right for you?

The course is open to learners at all levels and does not require previous Japanese language or origami experience. It suits participants willing to take part in guided, practical activities using demonstrations, slides and instruction in Japanese and English.

• No previous language knowledge or origami experience is required
• Participants are expected to take an active part in the workshop activities

Before you go

• Bring origami paper measuring approximately 15cm by 15cm. Completely square paper is required, preferably two-tone, such as red on one side and white on the other.
• Participants may be asked to watch videos before the workshop.
