Jazz & Blues Singing Lessons

About this course

The course uses group warm-ups and guided vocal work to develop breathing, posture, range, tone, dynamics and musicality. Learners explore jazz and blues repertoire, rhythm, timing, scales and rhythmic interpretation, with opportunities to sing both within an ensemble and as soloists. Teaching includes tutor feedback, harmony work and vocal improvisation. Participants typically study three to six songs and take part in an informal class sharing at the end.

This improver-level course is intended for singers developing beyond fundamental techniques. The source requires basic knowledge of singing, the ability to pitch and repeat notes, and previous study or experience. Participation takes place in a group, with ensemble singing, solo opportunities and an informal sharing.

• Previous completion of a beginners singing course or equivalent singing experience is required
• Learners need to hear notes and sing them back
• Good spoken and written English is required
