About this course
The course develops aural understanding of unusual forms, extended and altered harmony, advanced bass-line movement and voice-leading. Participants explore modes of the melodic minor alongside jazz standards, bebop, blues, modal pieces, rhythm changes, bossa nova and contemporary repertoire. Teaching combines group listening, discussion, singing, dictation and chord-recognition exercises. Learners apply these ideas to their instruments, improvise over study tunes and rehearse in small or large ensembles.

Is this course right for you?
This Intermediate course is intended for learners who already understand the jazz idiom and can improvise. Previous study of Jazz harmony and ear training 3A, the Tuesday intermediate jazz course or equivalent experience is expected. Participation includes listening, discussion, singing, class exercises and ensemble rehearsal.
