Jazz Singing Workshop

About this course

The workshop introduces blues and jazz repertoire alongside a basic understanding of jazz harmony. Sessions combine vocal warm-ups, listening and discussion with exercises in improvisation, including scat singing, and work on interpreting jazz standards in different styles. Learners’ progress is assessed through their performance during sessions. The course also considers how singers interact with other musicians and introduces basic performance techniques. At the beginning, learners can discuss the stated outcomes with the tutor and set personal targets.

Is this course right for you?

The course is intended for singers who can already sing in tune and in time with some confidence, but do not have previous jazz experience. Participation includes singing exercises, listening and discussion, with regular practice and listening expected outside class.
