Jewellery – Absolute Beginners

About this course

The course introduces gemstone and wire jewellery-making through practical exercises. Participants learn how to shape, twist and secure wire, then use clasps, hooks and jump rings to assemble finished designs such as pendants, rings and earrings. Sessions also cover different gemstones and their properties. Teaching combines tutor guidance, practical work, written self-tracking and regular progress discussions. Personal Learning Plans and tutor feedback are used to review development during the course.

Is this course right for you?

This course is intended for adults aged 19 or over who are new to jewellery making. No previous experience is needed. Participation involves practical jewellery-making activities alongside written notes, self-tracking and discussions with the tutor about progress.

• Learners must be aged 19 or over on 31 August before the course starts
• Additional support needs can be discussed with the provider

Before you go

• Essential materials are provided in class, but learners may need to purchase additional materials for their projects.
• Bring a notebook, pencil and apron.
• Some tools can be borrowed; learners are advised to build their own collection with guidance from the tutor.
• Allow 15 minutes at the end of the class for tidying up.
• Food and drink are not allowed in the studio, although a hub area is available for snacks and drinks.
