Jewellery – Beginners/Improvers

About this course

Participants learn to cut, texture, drill and form metal sheet, along with annealing and hard-soldering base metals and silver. Projects include designing and making pendants, earrings and rings, with box-bezel cabochon setting available on the longer course option. Teaching combines practical demonstrations with group and individual tuition. Learners’ work is informally assessed through observation and practical projects, while returning learners can discuss personal aims and set achievable targets with the tutor.

Is this course right for you?

The course is intended for complete beginners as well as improvers with some previous experience. Beginners are introduced to fundamental techniques, while returning learners can discuss their aims and agree personal targets. Teaching includes both group and individual tuition.

• No previous jewellery-making experience is needed
• Returning learners can work towards individually agreed targets

Before you go

• Basic materials are covered, but learners may need to purchase additional materials such as silver.
• Bring a notebook, pencil and apron.
• Non-slip, closed footwear is strongly recommended in the studio area.
• Some tools can be borrowed, although learners are encouraged to build their own collection with tutor advice.
• Allow 15 minutes at the end of the class for tidying up.
