About this course

The course introduces a low-tech approach to jewellery design, using a pendant as a focused example. Participants examine jewellery examples, develop an initial idea, refine it and consider how materials and making processes could translate the design into a finished piece.

Is this course right for you?

The course is labelled for all levels and is designed to accommodate learners with different amounts of jewellery experience. Participation includes individual work, partner or group exercises and short discussions. It provides an introduction to design development rather than comprehensive practice of the process.

• The work is centred on designing a pendant rather than making it during the course
• The course does not cover 3D modelling or CAD software
• Learners develop their own pendant idea through a sequence of guided exercises

Before you go

• Bring examples or images of personal work and sources of inspiration.
• Bring a notebook, pen, pencil, coloured pencils or other preferred drawing equipment.
• Wear casual clothing that can become dusty or damaged; avoid long, loose sleeves.
• Wear flat, closed shoes, tie back long hair and avoid open-toed sandals.
• Most of the workshop is step-free at street level, but some specialist equipment is in a lower-level area accessible only by stairs. Contact the provider in advance to discuss access requirements.
• Vegetarian and fish sushi, prosecco and soft drinks are provided. Dietary requirements should be shared in advance.
