Jewellery: finishing skills

About this course

The course examines how to plan finishing stages and refine jewellery through pre-polishing, final polishing, matt, satin and textured finishes. It covers identifying and treating fire scale and fire stain, as well as working carefully around gemstones and other delicate elements. Plating is introduced as a theoretical topic. Teaching combines demonstrations, short presentations, group discussion and one-to-one tutorials, with time to examine and work on pieces that are unfinished or need further refinement.

Is this course right for you?

This improver-level course is intended for learners who already have a basic understanding of jewellery-making techniques. It is not suitable for beginners, and participation centres on bringing jewellery pieces to discuss and develop through group work and individual tutorials.

Before you go

• Bring unfinished jewellery or completed pieces that need further refinement.
• All necessary finishing tools and materials are provided.
• Participants may bring their own tools if preferred.
• There is no formal homework.
