Jewellery for all levels: learn new skills as you create a personal piece

About this course

Participants develop jewellery and small sculptural objects through guided projects or self-initiated work. Techniques include annealing, bending, piercing, filing, soldering, cold joining, forming, texturing, forging and polishing, using materials such as silver, copper and brass. More experienced learners may explore advanced processes such as casting where appropriate. Teaching combines demonstrations, practical making, group discussion, peer learning, individual tutorials, handouts, slideshows and videos. Learners receive verbal and written feedback while setting and reviewing personal project aims. There is no formal assessment or required homework.

• Create textured surfaces and apply suitable polishing and finishing techniques

• Evaluate personal project development and refine techniques, materials and finishes

Is this course right for you?

The course is designed for beginners, returning learners and those with more experience. Beginners can follow structured projects, while returning or experienced participants can work more independently with tutor guidance. Learning includes individual tutorials alongside group discussion and peer sharing.

Before you go

• Basic materials and equipment, including sheet metal and wire, are provided.
• Precious metals and gemstones are not provided.
• Additional metals can be purchased on site by card.
• Learners are expected to follow studio health and safety procedures and keep shared work areas and equipment clean and tidy.
• There is no formal homework, although learners may continue projects independently if they choose.
• The shared studio is not suitable for large-scale or mass production.
