Jewellery: Intermediate Tuesday Afternoon

About this course

Participants develop jewellery pieces through a combination of specialist projects and individual work. The course covers techniques including sawing, filing, soldering and polishing, alongside design development, stone setting, metalworking and finishing methods. Teaching includes demonstrations, presentations, group discussions and one-to-one guidance. Learners work at their own pace, agree individual goals with the tutor, and receive technical and critical advice while responding to design briefs and resolving practical problems.

Is this course right for you?

The course is intended for learners with some previous jewellery-making experience, including familiarity with cutting, filing and soldering, although full proficiency is not expected. Learners work both through group teaching and individually, setting goals with the tutor and progressing at their own pace. Using some studio equipment and machinery requires a moderate level of fitness.

Before you go

• Participants are expected to buy materials for their projects, such as silver, silver solder and saw blades. A materials and supplier list is provided during the first lesson.
• The college provides the tools needed for the course and basic materials in reasonable quantities, including base metals, paper and acrylic.
• A notebook for technical notes and design ideas is strongly recommended.
• The jewellery studio has lift access.
• Some chemicals used on the course may be harmful during pregnancy. Pregnant learners should inform the tutor for advice about necessary precautions.
