About this course

The course examines examples of stones and settings before introducing the planning and construction of common mounts, including round coronet and square corner claw designs. Demonstrations cover two separate mounts, with learners applying the techniques in the workshop. Teaching combines group discussion, show and tell, group critique and individual tutor guidance. The course focuses on making settings and mounts rather than stone setting itself, which is covered separately on an introductory stone-setting course.

What you'll learn

  • Use a collet plate in mount construction
  • Plan mounts to accommodate stones
  • Construct different types of mount
  • Combine mounts within a jewellery design
