About this course
The course examines the soldering process, including flux, anti-flux and binding wire, before learners practise on base metal. Techniques covered include melting, pallion, pick feeding, stick feeding and sweat soldering. Learners apply these methods while making sample pieces and a decorative sphere from copper and brass. The course also covers jewellery torch use, different flame types and soldering equipment.

This course is intended for improvers who already have basic jewellery-making skills and want to extend their soldering knowledge. Learners will take part in structured practical exercises and use jewellery-making equipment, so a moderate level of fitness is indicated.

Before you go
- Bring an apron, notebook and pen.
- Silver may be brought for practice, but this is not necessary.
- Learners may bring a particularly difficult soldering piece for work in class.

- Some chemicals used may be harmful in pregnancy. Pregnant learners should inform the tutor for advice about precautions.
