About this course

The class explores how to create structured, representational, abstract and more random textures in jewellery wax, using examples such as scales, feathers, bark, fur, rocks and tool marks. Participants will plan and transfer designs, select or make suitable carving tools, and practise shaping three-dimensional forms. Teaching combines demonstrations for the group and individual guidance with set exercises before participants develop their own wax projects. The course also covers repairing breaks, altering carvings and the relationship between wax carving and casting designs in silver.

What you'll learn

  • Use a range of tools to cut and carve jewellery wax.
  • Plan, transfer and develop textured designs in wax.
  • Make or adapt carving tools for different textural effects.
  • Repair breaks and make alterations to three-dimensional wax carvings.
  • Explain how wax carving relates to casting a design in silver.
