About this course
Participants investigate waxes used in jewellery and practise carving techniques with a range of specialist tools. The workshop includes creating a bezel setting and translating an individual jewellery design into a wax model. Teaching combines demonstrations, presentations, guided practice, group discussion and one-to-one support. The lost-wax casting process and options for outsourcing professional casting are explained, but casting is not carried out during the course.

Is this course right for you?
This course is intended for complete beginners and does not require previous experience. Participants should be able to follow written and spoken instructions, demonstrations and health and safety information, take part in group discussion, and use simple measurements and calculations.
- No work outside class is required.
Before you go
- Most tools and equipment, including wax-carving tools and a selection of waxes, are provided.
- Participants may bring a jewellery design to develop in wax.
- Sensible footwear is required in the studio. Sandals, open shoes and small pumps are not permitted.
