About this course

The course extends foundational bench skills through practical demonstrations for the group and individual guidance. Participants work to a project brief, using design research, material and technical research, and formal elements of design to develop their own jewellery piece. Technical exploration includes sand casting and acid etching, alongside the creation of samples that inform the final work. Group discussion and feedback contribute to the design process, with learners expected to record their development and communicate with others during the course.

Is this course right for you?

The course is intended for jewellers with some experience who want to extend their skills beyond fundamental bench work. Participation includes responding to a set brief, undertaking personal research, joining group discussions and exchanging feedback with fellow learners and the tutor.

Before you go

• Materials for the technical exercises are provided.
• Learners wishing to work in precious metal must provide their own.
• Learners are expected to keep a toolbox and supply sundries such as saw blades, solder and abrasives.
• Bring an A4 hardback sketchbook.
