Joinery Day Taster

About this course

This beginner-level workshop introduces core hand-tool techniques used in traditional joinery. Participants practise accurate measuring and marking, straight sawing with Japanese pull saws, and chisel work for removing waste and refining joint surfaces. The course also covers sharpening, workshop safety, posture and body position. Instruction is structured around making a half-lap joint, allowing participants to apply the techniques to a defined piece of joinery. Teaching takes place in a group of no more than eight, with the instructor guiding participants through each stage.

Is this course right for you?

The course is designed for complete beginners, and no prior experience is necessary. It may also suit learners who have done some DIY or used hand tools and want instruction in basic joinery technique. Participation involves working through hand-tool exercises and producing a half-lap joint in a small group.
