About this course

Participants explore Kitchen Litho using readily available materials, learning how lithographic plates are created through drawing and mark-making. The course introduces the principles of lithography alongside image-making techniques and the preparation and processing of plates. Teaching combines tutor-led presentations, demonstrations and one-to-one tutorials. Participants develop practical experience by experimenting with drawing materials and producing their own small lithography edition.

Is this course right for you?

The course is suitable for all levels and explicitly welcomes learners without previous printmaking experience. Its small-group format combines presentations and demonstrations with individual tutorials, so participation includes both shared teaching and focused guidance while making prints.

Before you go

  • Bring a notebook and pencils.
  • Health and safety guidance will be provided, and participants will be asked to agree to follow the stated procedures.
  • Some chemicals may be harmful during pregnancy or cause irritation in rare cases. Inform the tutor about pregnancy or sensitivities so that necessary precautions can be discussed.
  • The print studio is not wheelchair accessible and is on the second and third floors. Learners with mobility issues should contact the department before enrolling.
