What Beginner (A1) Korean means

At A1 Korean, learners are beginning to use familiar words and simple sentences in predictable everyday situations.

  • Introduce yourself

    저는 안나예요. 런던에 살아요.

    My name is Anna. I live in London.

  • Order in a café

    커피 한 잔 주세요.

    A coffee, please.

  • Ask for directions

    실례합니다. 기차역이 어디예요?

    Excuse me, where is the railway station?

About this course

The course develops Korean for everyday situations, including introducing personal details, discussing routines, talking about food and transport, and describing plans and wants. Learners work with present-tense forms, polite endings, time expressions, numbers, formal and informal address, and structures for questions and simple requests. Teaching focuses on spoken communication through pair and group activities, role plays and games, supported by presentations, hand-outs and audio-visual resources. Homework is highly recommended to consolidate learning.

Is this course right for you?

This course is intended for learners who have completed a Korean beginners course or have an equivalent level, broadly corresponding to Beginner (A1). Participants should be able to follow simple instructions and explanations in English, use numbers in everyday contexts, and understand basic grammar terms.
