What Beginner (A1) Korean means

At A1 Korean, learners are beginning to use familiar words and simple sentences in predictable everyday situations.

About this course

The course introduces Korean communication from the basics, including Hangul, greetings, self-introductions, occupations, nationalities and commonly used formal and informal forms. Learners work on vowels, consonants, pronunciation rules, particles and simple present-tense sentences, alongside general etiquette in Korea. Teaching combines spoken communication with structured grammar, vocabulary and pronunciation practice. Group activities and role-plays provide opportunities to use the language, while the teacher conducts the class in Korean to develop listening and comprehension.

  • Exchange basic greetings and introduce oneself in formal and informal settings.
  • Ask and answer questions about occupations and nationalities.

This course is intended for complete beginners who have never studied Korean. Participation includes group work and role-plays, with the teacher speaking Korean throughout, so learners will encounter spoken interaction and target-language listening from the start.
