About this course

This programme introduces the school environment and the knowledge needed for further learning in supporting teaching and learning. Its three Level 1 units address schools as organisations, children’s health, safety and wellbeing, and communication with children, young people and adults. Learning is checked through classroom tasks, activities and classwork, followed by a portfolio assessed by the teacher and verified externally. The programme also includes the linked NCFE Understanding Specific Learning Difficulties Level 2 qualification, and learners must complete both parts.

Is this course right for you?

The course is intended for learners considering work in a school setting. A minimum of Entry 3 spoken and written English is required, with an advice and guidance session and written assessment before starting. A teaching placement is not required for this Level 1 course.

• Assessment includes ongoing classroom tasks and a completed portfolio.
