About this course

The course introduces the main elements of written music, including notes on the stave, treble and bass clefs, rhythms, time signatures, rests, bars and common musical terms. Short explanations and demonstrations are followed by note-reading, listening, written and rhythm exercises. Participants will clap and perform rhythms, read simple melodies together, and gradually apply the concepts to short pieces of music. The teaching combines individual and group activities, with regular opportunities to practise and revisit newly introduced ideas.

Is this course right for you?

The course is designed for complete beginners and for learners with some basic knowledge who want to develop their music-reading skills. No previous music theory or music-reading experience is required, and participants do not need to play an instrument. The format involves regular written and practical exercises, with an expectation that learners will participate and practise between sessions.
