Level 1 Award in Solar Photovoltaic

About this course

The course introduces how solar energy is captured and converted into electricity, covering the development of solar panels, solar technologies, system components and the distinction between on-grid and off-grid systems. It also examines solar design, applications and the benefits and challenges of solar energy. Teaching combines short lectures with workshops and demonstrations. Assessment includes a multiple-choice exam, alongside activities focused on virtual roof measurement, system design and the certification and registration processes associated with solar PV installations.

What you'll learn

• Explain the basic principles of solar energy and photovoltaic systems.
• Distinguish between different solar technologies and system types.
• Identify key components used in solar PV systems.
• Measure a roof virtually and design a solar system.
• Differentiate between G98 and G99 requirements.
• Create an MCS certificate and understand how to register a solar PV system with the National Grid and energy supplier.
