About this course

The course develops everyday and work-related English through classroom teaching, guided activities and access to online learning materials. Learners practise skimming, scanning and detailed reading, extracting information from texts, and using reading to extend vocabulary. Speaking and listening work includes presentations, discussions, expressing opinions and identifying specific information. Writing activities cover articles, letters and blogs, alongside handwriting and accurate spelling, punctuation and grammar. Progress is assessed through a tutor-marked folder of work and an Individual Learning Plan rather than an examination.

Is this course right for you?

The course is intended for adults aged 19 or over who have an existing foundation in English. The stated entry requirement is Level 1 Functional Skills English, and an initial assessment is required to check the learner’s level before enrolment. The Beginner (A1) label indicates an introductory level, but does not replace the stated entry requirement.
