About this course

This studio course explores how drawing can communicate narrative and storytelling. Participants develop their life drawing by combining observation with imaginative approaches, using the relationship between what is seen and what is invented as the basis for their work. The course is suitable as an introduction to this way of working and does not require previous drawing experience.

The course is designed for beginners, including learners with no previous drawing experience. Participation centres on developing drawings through a combination of observation, imagination and storytelling.

Before you go

  • Easels, drawing boards, charcoal, newsprint and masking tape are provided in the studio.
  • Cartridge paper and watercolour paper are provided in the studio.
  • Learners may bring additional materials for personal use, such as drawing pencils, Conté crayons, pastels, ink pens, coloured pencils, erasers, a pencil sharpener or a sketchbook.
