About this course
Sessions combine timed life-drawing poses with weekly concepts covering body structure, proportion, tonal values, colour theory, foreshortening and composition. Learners use geometric shapes to construct the figure, consider placement and emphasis, and plan extended projects from initial drawing through painting layers. Teaching includes warm-up poses, explanations, group discussion, verbal feedback, whole-class reviews and individual reviews. Longer poses become a greater focus later in the course, with some continuing across multiple sessions.
What you'll learn
- Construct the figure using geometric shapes and an understanding of bodily structure.
- Apply colour theory through tone, harmony and contrast.
- Use proportion and foreshortening when drawing the figure.
- Develop compositions using placement, emphasis and direction.
- Plan an extended project from an initial drawing through successive painting layers.
