About this course
This course examines ways to make an expressive response to the figure from life. Participants will work with composition, paint handling, tone, colour and layered responses, while studying the work and methods of Expressionist artists. Teaching combines demonstrations, practical application, individual guidance and group discussion. Alongside time working from the model, sessions consider colour mixing, meaningful mark-making, texture and the decisions involved in developing a personal response in oil paint.

The course is intended for improvers developing beyond fundamental painting techniques. Some previous life drawing would be advantageous. Participation includes practical work, demonstrations, one-to-one guidance and group discussion, with written and verbal instructions supporting the sessions.
