About this course

Participants examine historical and contemporary logomarks and logotypes, considering how spacing, colour, shape and typography contribute to effective identity design. They develop logo and branding ideas through analogue and digital image-making, including work in Adobe Illustrator, and explore how identities can be applied across print and digital media. Teaching combines presentations, demonstrations, practical work, individual and group tutoring, and discussion. Accessibility, legibility and diversity are considered alongside the relationship between logos and wider brand identity. Learners also review their own and others’ work through facilitated critical evaluation.

What you'll learn

  • Analyse logomarks and logotypes in relation to the properties of successful design
  • Develop logo concepts using spacing, colour, shape and typography
  • Create analogue and digital images using relevant processes, including Adobe Illustrator
  • Integrate a logo into a broader brand identity for print and digital applications
  • Evaluate design work with reference to accessibility, legibility and diversity
