About this course

This on-location workshop examines the aesthetics and practical methods of street photography while participants photograph London’s urban environment. A professional photographer provides guidance on camera technique, photographing people and street photography etiquette, composition, natural and artificial light, colour and black-and-white approaches. The course also explores how to recognise a decisive moment, develop a visual style and build narrative into a series of images. Teaching takes place in a small group, combining explanation with practical advice and photography exercises on location.

Is this course right for you?

The course is labelled Improver and is presented as a next step in developing the principles of digital photography. Previous photography experience is not essential, although a good understanding of aperture, shutter speed and ISO is described as an advantage. Teaching takes place in a small group while photographing on location.

Before you go

• Bring a mirrorless, DSLR or compact camera with full manual controls. A camera can be borrowed if needed.
• Bring the camera manual, a fully charged battery, an empty memory card and a light rucksack or camera bag.
• Comfortable shoes are requested.
• A lightweight tripod is optional.
