About this course

The course examines how macro photography differs from close-up photography, then explores magnification ratios and life-size measurements. Participants study macro lighting techniques and accessories such as reflectors, shapers and diffusers, alongside composition methods for highlighting a subject. Teaching combines theory with practical work, including demonstrations of manual and semi-manual camera settings. The small group format allows for individual attention and feedback while participants develop close-up images.

What you'll learn

  • Distinguish macro photography from close-up photography
  • Explain magnification ratios and life-size measurements
  • Apply macro lighting techniques using relevant accessories
  • Use manual and semi-manual camera settings for macro photography
  • Compose macro images to emphasise the subject and supporting elements
