Make a Hinge (Four-Week Focussed Course)

About this course

The workshop examines hinge construction at jewellery scale rather than producing a finished piece. Participants make a series of hinge samples, testing different constructions, proportions, tolerances and movement for applications such as lockets, bracelets, clasps and articulated forms. Teaching combines step-by-step demonstrations with supported bench time. Across the course, participants practise and refine their work, with discussion, feedback and troubleshooting focused on accuracy, alignment, fit and durability.

Is this course right for you?

The course is intended for intermediate and advanced makers with some prior knowledge of jewellery or silversmithing, or relevant practical skills. Participants work individually at the bench while taking part in demonstrations, discussion, feedback and troubleshooting.

Before you go

• Materials are not included. Participants should bring the materials specified by the teacher for each session.
• An apron is requested, along with casual clothing that can become dusty or damaged. Loose sleeves should be avoided.
• Flat, closed-toe shoes are required, and long hair should be tied back.
• Reading glasses, if needed, and a notebook and pen may be brought.
• The workshop is on the second floor of a building without a lift. Participants with access requirements should contact the provider before booking.
