Woodworking

Intermediate

An intermediate woodworking class focused on constructing a Japanese-inspired coffee table using selected Japanese joinery elements.

About this course

Participants construct a coffee table influenced by George Nakashima’s design approach, working with a combination of familiar forms and Japanese joinery details. The joinery introduces additional technical challenges within the build and provides the central focus of the class.

What you'll learn

  • Construct a coffee table using Japanese joinery elements
  • Apply hand-cut joinery skills to a furniture-making project
  • Work through technically demanding joinery details within a larger build

Is this course right for you?

The course is intended for intermediate woodworkers. It is particularly suited to learners who have previously studied with the provider or who have reasonably good hand-cut joinery skills, rather than those approaching woodworking for the first time.

  • Previous study with the provider is useful
  • Reasonably good hand-cut joinery skills are recommended

Before you go

  • Wear sturdy shoes; flip-flops and sandals are not permitted.
