About this course

The workshop teaches hand-building techniques through the making of one coffee mug. Learners shape the mug individually, then apply coloured slips to decorate its surface. The course is focused on forming a functional ceramic vessel and using slip decoration to develop its appearance. It is described as suitable for all levels, with no previous experience required.

Is this course right for you?

The workshop is described as suitable for all levels and requires no previous experience, so it can accommodate complete beginners as well as learners with prior pottery experience. Participants make an individual mug in a class of up to eight people.

Before you go

  • An apron or old T-shirt is recommended to protect clothing.
  • Short nails are recommended.
  • Clay, coloured slips, glaze and all required tools are included.
  • One mug per person will be glazed and fired; additional pieces made during the class will be recycled and not fired.
  • Finished pieces can be collected 3 to 5 weeks after the class.
