What Intermediate (B1) Mandarin means

At B1 Mandarin, learners can deal with most everyday situations and explain experiences, opinions and plans in connected language.

    我觉得在家工作很方便,不过有时候会感到孤独。

    I think working from home is convenient, although it can sometimes feel lonely.

  • Explain a plan

    我想提高汉语水平,这样明年就能去国外工作。

    I want to improve my Mandarin so I can work abroad next year.

  • Tell a short story

    我们正要去海边,突然下起雨来,所以只好改变计划。

    We were heading to the beach when it started raining, so we had to change our plans.

About this course

The course develops Mandarin across spoken communication, grammar, vocabulary, pronunciation and listening comprehension. Learners take part in group work and role-plays, while the teacher uses Mandarin throughout to provide sustained listening practice and encourage communication in the target language. Lessons combine interactive activities with systematic language study, helping participants work towards a more advanced level. Learners also receive access to online lesson summaries, notes and resources, alongside teacher support and Mandarin study guidance.

This course is intended for learners with substantial prior Mandarin study who are progressing beyond intermediate level towards more advanced work. The provider requires previous study at Mandarin Level 18 or a course totalling at least 216 class hours. Participation involves group activities, role-plays and instruction conducted in Mandarin.
