About this course
The course develops spoken Mandarin through situations such as describing locations, asking permission, telling the time, discussing plans, weather and health. Classroom activities include group work and role-plays, with the teacher using Mandarin throughout to practise listening and comprehension. Alongside communication practice, learners study grammar including existence sentences, conjunctions, modal verbs, imperatives, measure words, time expressions and question forms. Vocabulary covers everyday objects, locality, time, weather and adjectives, with an introduction to features of Chinese names.
What you'll learn
- Describe where people and objects are located using relevant locality words and sentence structures.
- Ask for permission, tell the time and discuss when activities will take place.
- Talk about weather conditions and health using appropriate vocabulary and question forms.
- Use selected Mandarin grammar, including 和, 能, 请, measure words and time adverbials.
- Recognise features of Chinese people’s names.
Is this course right for you?
This course is intended for learners who have already studied Mandarin Level 2 or completed a course of at least 24 class hours. The Elementary (A2) label indicates a developing foundation rather than a first introduction. Participation includes spoken communication, group work and role-plays, with teaching conducted in Mandarin.
- Previous Mandarin study is required.
- The course involves regular group work and role-plays.
- The teacher speaks Mandarin throughout the lessons.
