Masters of Cinema: Céline Sciamma

About this course

The course examines key films from Céline Sciamma’s career alongside recurring themes including gender, social and ethnic norms, female authorship, gender fluidity and transgression. It considers how Sciamma works across forms such as teen films, suburb filmmaking, animation and costume drama, and explores her discussion of the female gaze. Teaching combines tutor-led work, small- and large-group discussions, and regular screenings of short film extracts. Relevant ideas and films are considered through close discussion of Sciamma’s work and its cinematic approaches.
