About this course
The course examines Sergio Leone’s career and filmmaking through selected film extracts, tutor presentations, textual analysis and group discussion. It considers how Leone uses storytelling conventions, extreme close-ups and stylised violence, alongside the relationship between music and image in his work with composer Ennio Morricone. It also explores Leone’s influence on contemporary cinema, including his depiction of amoral characters and the development of the modern anti-hero, with attention to Clint Eastwood’s screen persona.
