About this course
The workshop examines Joyce’s style through close reading and discussion of “Araby” and “Eveline” from Dubliners. Topics include theme, character development, imagery, epiphany, paralysis and the cultural and political context of his early fiction. Participants also investigate how Joyce represents consciousness and develop their own prose through exercises influenced by Ulysses and Finnegans Wake. Teaching combines short lectures, interactive presentations, and group and individual writing activities, with attention to rhythm, perspective, linguistic play and the expression of characters’ minds.
