Maths Skills – Entry Level (E3/L1) – Measure, Shape and Space

About this course

The course develops work with whole numbers, fractions, decimals, calculations, data, probability, statistics, area, perimeter, volume and measurement. Teaching combines classroom instruction with activities, with online materials available for further study outside class. It is assessed through a folder of work and a Personal Learning Plan rather than an examination. Tutors set and mark tasks to gather evidence of progress, while the course also introduces the content and expectations of subsequent maths qualifications.

Is this course right for you?

The course is intended for learners with established maths skills at Entry Level 3 and English skills at Level 1 in speaking and listening, reading and writing. It involves classroom activities, work set for assessment and independent consolidation using online materials. A computer-based initial assessment may be used to confirm current maths and English levels.

• It is designed as preparation for progression to a Functional Skills Maths or Level 1 Maths course.
• Assessment is based on completed work and a Personal Learning Plan rather than an examination.

Before you go

• Learners should bring an A4 writing pad, a black or blue pen, coloured pens and a calculator to the first class.
