About this course

The course develops mixing and mastering practice through advanced work with EQ, compression, reverb, effects and vocal production. Sessions combine practical workshops with lectures, audiovisual presentations and discussions based on listening assignments. Learners work both individually and in groups, analysing professional mixes and applying processing techniques to their own projects. Vocal production includes methods such as doubling, de-essing, EQ, compression and spatialising, alongside comparisons between software and hardware equipment.

Is this course right for you?

This course is intended for intermediate learners who have completed Mixing and Mastering Level 1, Sound Engineering or Logic Intermediate, or who have equivalent experience. It involves practical workshops, listening discussions, audiovisual teaching, and both group and individual projects.

• Previous study or equivalent experience in mixing, mastering, sound engineering or Logic is expected
• Learners work on both individual and group projects
• A strong interest in music is specified by the provider

Before you go

• Ear plugs are strongly encouraged because sessions may involve high volume levels.
• Learners should bring a USB memory stick to save their work.
• Learners should bring their own music, or music by others, to mix; music can be provided if necessary.
• Access outside class to Logic, Pro Tools, Ableton or Cubase is highly recommended.
• Pen and paper are suggested for taking notes, and handouts and materials are provided.
