About this course
The course examines mastering for release, including multiband compression, linear-phase EQ, limiting, metering and plugins such as iZotope and Waves. It also considers phasing, dither, track order and ISRC codes, with examples using several digital audio workstations. Teaching combines practical workshops, lectures, audiovisual presentations, discussion of student tasks and individual projects. Learners apply the techniques to their own work, including mastering material for an EP.

This intermediate course is intended for learners who have completed Mixing and Mastering 2 or have equivalent experience with basic mixing techniques. Participation includes practical workshops, individual projects and discussion of student work.
- Requires access outside class to a supported digital audio workstation
- Computer skills and file-management knowledge are expected
- A strong interest in music is specified
Before you go
- Access outside class to Logic, Pro Tools, Reaper, Ableton or Cubase is essential; Ableton, Cubase, Adobe Audition and Reaper can also be supported.
- Bring a computer with audio monitoring through headphones or speakers.
- A USB memory stick is needed for saving work.
- Pen and paper are requested for taking notes.
- Learners may bring their own music for mixing and mastering, although material can be provided if necessary.
- Ear plugs are strongly encouraged because lessons may involve high volume levels.
- Handouts and other course materials are provided.
