About this course
Players rehearse and perform pieces selected by the tutor, with a focus on music by Miles Davis, Wayne Shorter and other modal jazz composers. Sessions examine how modes can inform melodic improvisation, phrasing and interaction within the jazz idiom, alongside ear-training activities. Regular tutor feedback helps participants refine their playing and understand their role within the ensemble.

The course is intended for players at ABRSM Grade 4–5 on their chosen instrument. The format involves rehearsing and performing as part of an ensemble, rather than working solely as an individual musician.
