About this course

Participants develop individual sculpture ideas while working with soft and hard waxes alongside plaster. The course covers modelling, casting wax into plaster moulds, making sheet wax, creating finishes and reinforcing wax for display or use as a pattern for metal or ceramic slip casting. Teaching combines tutor demonstrations, handouts, group discussion and one-to-one feedback. Learners can work towards one or more finished artworks, with guidance on handling materials and maintaining safe workshop practice, including the use of hot wax.

Is this course right for you?

The course is suitable for complete beginners as well as learners with some experience of wax or sculpture. Its all-levels format combines individual project work with group discussion, demonstrations and one-to-one feedback. Some small lifting and manual dexterity are involved when working with wax and handling hot materials.
