Monday Afternoon: Printmaking For All

About this course

The workshop introduces beginners to trace mono, painterly and rolled-up monoprinting, including the use of stencils to block and print areas. Learners with more experience can develop personal projects and extend their printmaking practice. Teaching combines demonstrations, presentations, group discussions, critiques and individual technical or critical advice. Learners record and review their progress through a Learning Statement, with opportunities to share techniques and ideas across the mixed-level group.

Is this course right for you?

The course is designed for beginners, intermediate and advanced printmakers working together. No previous printmaking experience is necessary, although an interest in or experience of drawing or design is useful. Learners can work on personal projects while taking part in shared demonstrations, discussions and critiques, with individual guidance available.

Before you go

• Learners should bring pencils, a small paintbrush and a sketchbook or notebook.
• Protective clothing is provided. Learners may bring their own apron and rubber gloves.
• Most studio consumables, including ink, cleaning materials and solvents, are included. Paper, etching plates and lino blocks are not included and need to be obtained separately.
• Health and safety procedures are explained during the course. Some chemicals may be harmful during pregnancy or cause irritation, so learners should inform the tutor about pregnancy or sensitivities.
• The print studio is not wheelchair accessible and is located on the second and third floors. Learners with mobility issues should contact the department before enrolling.
