Monday Morning: Printmaking For All

About this course

The workshop introduces mono printing through trace mono, painterly mono and rolled-up mono techniques, alongside stencil-based methods for blocking and transferring printed areas. Learners with existing experience can use the class to extend their practice through personal projects and more advanced printing approaches. Teaching combines demonstrations, presentations, group discussions, critiques and individual technical or critical guidance. Participants work at their own level while sharing ideas and exploring printmaking methods, artists’ work and their own developing projects.

Is this course right for you?

The course is designed for beginners, intermediate and advanced learners working alongside one another. No previous printmaking experience is needed, while an interest in or experience of drawing or design may be useful. Learners with existing experience can revisit techniques or develop personal projects.

• Suitable for learners with no previous printmaking experience.
• Drawing or design experience may be useful but is not stated as required.
• Learners returning to printmaking can renew and develop their knowledge.

Before you go

• Bring pencils, a small paintbrush and a sketchbook or notebook.
• Protective clothing is provided; learners may bring their own apron and rubber gloves.
• Most studio consumables, including ink, cleaning materials and solvents, are included. Paper, etching plates and lino blocks must be paid for separately and are available from the department at cost price.
• Health and safety guidance is provided, and learners must agree to follow the stated procedures.
• Some chemicals may be harmful during pregnancy or cause irritation for people with sensitivities. Inform the tutor so suitable precautions can be discussed.
• The print studio is not wheelchair accessible and is on the second and third floors. Learners with mobility issues should contact the department before enrolling.
